Inflatable sculpture, video
Portland Winter Lights Festival 2025, World Trade Center Plaza. Made in collaboration with Genevieve Hildebrand-Chupp.
A future landscape made of astro turf, carpet, cloth, and the projected memory of a meadow.
Synthetic Meadow stood in the center of a busy plaza, framed from below by a large circle of astro turf. A plackard invites visitors into to step into the role of a pollinator, using their movement to animate a surreal, hybrid landscape.
The scene was divided by three layers of curved screen. Videos projected on each side lit up the space with flowers, swaying grass, and bumbling bees.
Guests interacted with inflated fabric sculptures of echinacea flowers and relaxed on soft grass-like tuffets while meditating on the dreamlike scene or watching nearby festival performances.
